Do old Aadhaar card users need to update their documents: Here’s what you should know
HIGHLIGHTS

UIDAI urges people to update their Aadhaar card documents, at least every 10 years.

It is not mandatory for users to update their linked documents.

Here's how you can update your Aadhar card documents online and offline.

A recent advisory issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) urged people who had their Aadhaar cards issued 10 years ago to get their documents including proof of identity and proof of address updated either online through the myAadhaar portal or offline by visiting the nearest Aadhaar centre

"Residents who had got their Aadhaar issued 10 years back, and have never updated after that in these years, such Aadhaar number holders are encouraged to get their documents updated," the statement said. “It is in the interest of the residents to keep their Aadhaars updated with current proof of identity and proof of address," UIDAI further added.

Is it mandatory to get 10-year-old Aadhaar cards updated?

Actually, No. The advisory encourages users to update their Aadhaar information but doesn’t make it mandatory to do so. It clearly mentions that residents “may” do so on completion of every 10 years.

Having the latest documents associated with your Aadhaar will make it easier for users to avail of government schemes and will enable accurate authentication.
