We’ve got a week and change to go to May 3rd but since we’re all stuck at home because of the Coronavirus pandemic, let’s watch as much content as we can. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of the best superhero movies on Netflix for your viewing pleasure. Superheroes have essentially taken the place of heroes of yore and are the new mythological figures of our generation. This Netflix superhero movies list will include a few favourites but also drop in a few unexpected films that you guys may not have watched. It’s too early to say if Netflix superhero movies in 2020 will be as good as the years past, but we’ll have to wit and see what Netflix delivers.

Some top superhero movies on Netflix may not be the biggest films ever but they do have something that draws you in. Whether it’s the story or the excellent acting, these films are also some of the most-watched Netflix superhero movies on the platform. So, join us as we take a deeper look at the best Netflix superhero films that are available on the platform.

Here we go!

The Amazing Spider-Man

Even though the first reboot of the Spider-Man franchise didn’t really break the box office, it was still a pretty decent film. The film also marks a stark departure of the character from his geeky, shy roots and throws him into the shows of the very talented Andrew Garfield as the web-slinging hero. An origin story of sorts, The Amazing Spider-Man also gave us one of the coolest and much-anticipated villains in the form of the terrifying Lizard, aka Dr Curt Conners.

Avengers

The film that actually blew the MCU up into the juggernaut it is today, The Avengers was superheroes at its finest. Before this film came out, no one had any idea on how to handle a team of superheroes, but Joss Whedon walked in and took the reins with authority. The film brings together Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow and the Hulk in an all-out battle against Loki and Thanos’ forces. If you haven’t seen the film yet, we suggest you go do that, right now.

Justice League

We had to include this one here as it’s pretty much DC’s answer to The Avengers. Although the film did not reach the heights that Marvel’s Avengers did, it still managed to make a ton of money at the box office. Also, seeing Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash and Superman taking it to Steppenwolf is a sight to behold. The film was pretty much ruined by the meddling Geoff Johns who is DC’s Chief Creative Officer, the film still had a ton of heart and managed to entertain fans who love the characters.

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises is the last film in the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy and it caps off a milestone in DC’s film superhero film catalogue. A more gritty and realistic take on the Caped Crusader, The Dark Knight Rises sees Batman battling back from a gruesome injury at the hands of his nemesis Bane and take back the city of Gotham in an action-packed extravaganza that closed out the trilogy in style.

Captain America: The First Avenger

If you’re a fan of good old Captain America, then you should not miss this film. Although it’s more of an origin story, it still deals with the spirit and heart of Steve Rogers as he tries to enlist in the US army only to be rebuffed at every turn. A man who wants to serve his country but can’t Steve goes through a radical transformation to become the powerhouse he is today. Also, Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull is truly inspired casting.

Iron Man 3

Although Iron Man 3 did not capture the same fun vibe of the first film, it was still miles better than the mess that was Iron Man 2. Plus, the creators of the film adapted some of the best Iron Man stories such as Extremis and more and fit them into a film. Robert Downey Jr is in fine form here as he reprises the role of Tony Stark and looks to take out Guy Pierce’s Adian Killian. Also, Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin is just wonderful.

Batman Ninja

Ok, a disclaimer. This film may not be to everyone’s liking but we do applaud it for being a wildly different take on the Dark Knight and his Rouge’s Gallery and have to give it points for trying to do something that wasn’t cookie-cutter superheroes. Also, if you like anime then this is the Batman film for you. Imagine Batman in ancient Japan donning samurai armour, yeah, it is that cool.

Watchmen

The comic book that changed comic books forever finally got the big-screen treatment with 2009’s Watchmen. Although the writers of the film had to tweak the ending for the big screen, they still maintained the spirit of the comic book, unlike the terrible Watchmen TV show that had no business being associated with such a legendary comic book. Skip the show and check out the film instead.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2

The first film was such a sleeper hit that fans were not ready for the laughs and heart that the Guardians of the Galaxy brought to the MCU. The second film does add a lot to the mythos of the MCU in the form of Ego the living planet but still retained that same heart and spirit that made the first film such a great watch. If you’ve seen the first film, the sequel is truly a worthy successor.

A geek and nerd at heart, I love comic books, horror movies and professional fighting. Yes, I know how insane that sounds.
