A gigantic dragon simulator, some crazy pyrotechnics, 20 men on fire simultaneously - Here’s how the Game of Thrones season 7 fire blazing Loot Train Attack was filmed
When Daenerys Targaryen rode in on her fire-breathing dragon, burning the Lannister army to a crisp in Episode 4 of the ongoing season, it sure was a goosebumps-worthy moment as the Khaleesi’s first battle cry in Westeros. The entire battle sequence, also called the Loot Train attack, was as epic a production stunt, as it looked in the final cut of the episode.
HBO has now released a new video detailing the production of the GoT Season 7, Episode 4 Loot Train Attack. The video shows how a massive production crew filled with stuntmen, pyrotechnics artists and some killer animators managed to pull-off the hair raising battle sequence which ends with Jamie Lannister drowning in a lake, weighed down by his heavy battle armour.
Some of the ultra cool production feats that the GoT team managed to pull off include – a scene where 20 men were set on fire simultaneously for 12 seconds, Danny (Emilia Clarke) riding a giant motion-based dragon simulator to fly in concert with the movements of the dragon, burning 27 wagons in a shot to perfectly sync with the dragon’s fire-breathing attack, the use on an eco-friendly dye to for the charcoal burnt look of props, shooting with 8 cameras, the use of three different tracking vehicles, a special contraption to make the Dothrakis stand on their horses while attacking, and much more.
