Arista Vault Duo Fingerlock Backpack: Security comes at a price

Updated on 03-Sep-2024

We have seen multiple brands attempting to make “smart” and technology-laden backpacks. Many have succeeded, and some have failed. Balancing the price and the features of these offerings is what makes or breaks the deal for many. So, when the Indian brand Arista Vault reached out to share their Duo Fingerlock Backpack, which comes in at a considerably steep price of Rs. 9,999, I was intrigued and wanted to see how well the features worked in my day-to-day use. So, I used the Arista Vault Duo Fingerlock Backpack on one of my recent trips and here’s what I found out –

Design and Build Quality

The Arista Vault Duo Fingerlock Backpack boasts a sleek and sophisticated design that is perfect for both professional and casual settings. The black exterior is not only stylish but also durable and made from high-quality materials that ensure longevity and resistance to wear and tear. The backpack’s ergonomic design includes padded shoulder straps and a breathable back panel, providing comfort even during extended use.

The attention to detail in the design is evident, with multiple compartments and pockets that cater to various needs. Whether you are carrying a laptop, documents, or personal items, the backpack offers ample space and organisation options. The interior is lined with a soft fabric that protects your belongings from scratches and damage.

What truly sets the Arista Vault Duo Fingerlock Backpack apart is its Duo Fingerlock technology. This locking mechanism uses biometric authentication to secure the main compartment of the backpack. As claimed by the brand, the dual-chain locking system adds an extra layer of security, making it virtually impossible for unauthorised individuals to access your belongings. This feature is particularly beneficial for travellers and professionals who carry sensitive or valuable items, such as myself. The peace of mind that comes with knowing your belongings are secure is invaluable, especially in crowded or unfamiliar environments.

Functionality and Experience

Beyond its impressive security features, the Arista Vault Duo Fingerlock Backpack is designed with functionality and convenience in mind. The backpack includes a built-in USB charging port, allowing you to charge your devices on the go. This feature is a lifesaver for those who rely on their smartphones, tablets, or laptops throughout the day.

The backpack also features water-resistant materials and zippers, protecting your belongings from the elements. Whether you are caught in a sudden downpour or accidentally spill a drink, you can rest assured that your items will remain dry and safe.

One of the standout features of the Arista Vault Duo Fingerlock Backpack is its versatility. It is suitable for a wide range of users, from students and professionals to travellers and our breed of tech enthusiasts. The sleek design makes it appropriate for business meetings and formal settings, while the durable construction and practical features make it ideal for everyday use.

While the Arista Vault Duo Fingerlock Backpack has many strengths, it is not without its drawbacks. One of the primary concerns is the reliance on biometric technology. Although the fingerprint scanner is convenient, it can sometimes be finicky, especially in extreme weather conditions or if your fingers are wet or dirty. This can lead to frustration when trying to access your belongings quickly.

Another potential downside is the weight of the backpack. Due to the inclusion of the biometric lock and other smart features, the backpack is slightly heavier than traditional models. This added weight might be noticeable during long commutes or extended periods of wear. Additionally, the price point of the Arista Vault Duo Fingerlock Backpack is on the higher side. While the features and build quality justify the cost for many users, it may be a significant investment for others, particularly students or those on a tight budget.

Should you buy the Arista Vault Duo Fingerlock backpack?

The Arista Vault Duo Fingerlock Backpack keeps all these boxes checked. The innovative biometric lock, solid construction, and stylish looks make it the perfect choice for one to upgrade to their everyday carry if you have enough money to spare. Its features, such as the USB charging port and water-resistant materials, make it even more functional and versatile for many people. With this backpack, you can carry your belongings with confidence, knowing that they are protected by the latest in biometric security technology.

The steep pricing of the bag, as I mentioned earlier, could be a holdback for some. While I do see more and more tech making its way into our daily use backpacks, the vision of having a tech-laden backpack is nothing but a pipe dream. This bag is a step in the right direction. However, it is distant enough from the finish line of becoming essential for the masses, the main reason being its price tag.
