AMD Unveils Expansive Lineup at CES 2025: Gaming, AI PCs, and Commercial Innovationsa

AMD, at CES 2025, showcased its commitment to pushing technological boundaries with announcements covering gaming, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven PCs, and enterprise solutions. The presentation highlighted new launches across several product categories, including new Ryzen 9000 processors, handheld processors and even a new RDNA 4 GPU architecture announcement.

Ryzen 9950X3D, Ryzen 9900X3D and Ryzen Z2

AMD introduced the Ryzen 9950X3D and 9900X3D, designed for desktop gamers and content creators. Built on the “Zen 5” architecture, these processors incorporate second-generation AMD 3D V-Cache technology. This innovation relocates cache memory beneath the core complex die, reducing temperatures and improving clock speeds. Key specifications include:

  • Ryzen 9950X3D: 16 cores, 32 threads, with a base clock of 4.3 GHz and boost clock up to 5.7 GHz.
  • Ryzen 9900X3D: 12 cores, 24 threads, clocked up to 5.5 GHz.

Both processors aim to provide enhanced performance for demanding gaming and creative applications.

The Ryzen Z2 series brings desktop-class gaming to handheld devices. Equipped with up to eight “Zen 5” cores and RDNA 3.5 graphics, the processors promise responsive gaming with optimised power efficiency. Models include:

  • Ryzen Z2 Extreme: Featuring 16 graphics cores and a cTDP range of 15-35W.
  • Ryzen Z2 Go: A more lightweight option with 12 graphics cores.

RDNA 4 Architecture

AMD’s RDNA 4 graphics architecture aims to redefine gaming performance with improved AI engines and third-generation ray-tracing accelerators. The accompanying FidelityFX Super Resolution Technology (FSR 4) uses machine learning to enhance image quality while maintaining high frame rates. Additionally, the HYPR-RX suite integrates features like Radeon Anti-Lag and Fluid Motion Frames for smoother gameplay.

Ryzen AI Max, AI 300 and AI 200

AMD’s Ryzen AI Max processors cater to premium thin-and-light laptops, combining “Zen 5” CPU cores with RDNA 3.5 graphics and an XDNA 2 Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of 50 TOPS (trillion operations per second). Key features include:

  • Up to 16 CPU cores.
  • Integrated memory architecture with support for up to 128GB of system memory.
  • Enhanced multitasking for demanding AI applications.

These processors support advanced generative AI workloads, digital assistants, and other modern AI tools, marking a significant step in AI PC adoption.

To broaden the accessibility of AI PCs, AMD announced additions to its Ryzen AI 300 and 200 Series. The AI 300 Series incorporates eight “Zen 5” cores and RDNA 3.5 graphics, delivering performance tailored for mainstream systems. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 200 Series extends “Zen 4” capabilities to entry-level devices, with select models integrating on-die NPUs.

Dell unveils new Ryzen AI PRO laptops

AMD announced its first commercial PCs with Dell, powered by Ryzen AI PRO processors. These devices combine AMD PRO Technologies with AI-driven capabilities, addressing enterprise needs for security, manageability, and productivity. Features such as Copilot+ provide tools for live captioning, language translation, and AI-enhanced workflows.

AMD’s CES 2025 announcements underline its strategy to cater to diverse computing needs. The gaming innovations enhance performance for players and creators alike, while the expansion of AI-driven products signals the growing importance of intelligent computing across consumer and commercial markets.
