Adobe Touch Apps have arrived

Updated on 04-Oct-2011

At the MAX 2011 conference currently underway, Adobe announced Adobe Touch Apps, a family of six touch screen applications that will eventually be available on Android and Apple’s iOS platforms.

The applications available under the Touch Apps portfolio are:

Adobe Photoshop Touch

You’ll no longer be limited with tools if you’re on the go, or are a frequent traveller. With Photoshop Touch, you can use simple finger gestures and combine photos into layered images, make edits and apply professional effects to images as well. An exclusive Scribble Selection Tool lets you extract objects by scribbling along the images. An innovative Refine Edge algorithm determines the areas you want to select and does it for you. In addition, Adobe Photshop Touch now has improved integration with Facebook and Google search and lets you find images, share your work and view comments. With the new Adobe Creative Cloud feature, you can sync your files and open them anytime on your desktop with Photoshop!

Adobe Collage

Collage helps design personnel refine ideas and combine inspirational images, drawings, and Creative Suite files into modern, conceptual mood boards for ideation. You can import images, four customisable pen types that you can use to draw, add text and apply colour themes. According to Anubhav Rohatgi, Senior Product Manager, Adobe India, this product was largely developed out of the Indian development centre at Noida.

Adobe Debut

With Adobe Debut, you can present demos and the first cut for your work to your clients. Debut creates tablet-compatible versions of Creative Suite files enabling a convenient viewing experience on a tablet or mobile device. Your client can then add feedback using touch or a stylus.

Adobe Ideas

This is a vector based drawing tool. Using touch gestures on your tablet you can now sketch and paint, and your creations are saved as vector images that you can always stretch, edit and tweak! In fact, it also supports layers so you have absolute control over your work. You can view and edit your finished work in Illustrator and Photoshop as well.

Adobe Kuler

Although Kuler has been around for some time now, it is now available for tablets as well. You can generate colour themes for any design project. The active Kuler community also ensures that you are never out of options to choose from. You can rate and comment on themes and also export colour swatches for other Creative suite projects.

Adobe Proto

Web developers and designers will find this a useful tool while planning a web site. Using simple touch gestures on a tablet, you can create wireframes for a web site or mobile or tablet application that you can export as a library of standard HTML, CSS and JavaScript and also share it on popular browsers for immediate review and approval.

In addition to these six applications, and the Creative Cloud service, Adobe has also announced Adobe Carousel which is the only photography solution that gives you access to your entire library across tablets, smartphones and desktops. The best part: unlimited storage! You can now enjoy all your entire photo libraries anywhere you go. You no longer have to worry about duplicate images. Since Carousel analyses the image and metadata instead of just looking at file names, it identifies duplicate images and accordingly separates them. You can perform the exact same photo-processing that is possible with Lightroom.
