As I settled into my revamped living space, I quickly realised some distinct advantages and occasional drawbacks that come with BLDC Fans. BLDC fans don’t work with speed regulators
BLDC ceiling fans can get damaged if you connect them to your conventional speed regulators. This is also why all BLDC fans come with their remote controls for speed adjustment. Some manufacturers have started making speed regulators for BLDC fans, but these are expensive and most probably won’t fit into your existing switchboard plate.
And as most of us have ample experience with our TV remotes, these sneaky scamps vanish into thin air just when you need them. Conventional regulators on the other hand are always where you expect them when needed.
Pairing one remote with multiple fans
A simple solution is to keep your remotes stashed safely and use just one or two to control all the fans in your home. Technically, it works, but there’s a catch. I have two fans in my living room and one in the adjacent drawing room. No matter how sneakily I aim, all three fans change speed simultaneously! This is quite frustrating.
And yes, the pairing process differs for different brands so keep those manuals handy.

Check for wattage
Check the wattage before you buy. The BLDC fans usually consume 28W to 36W of power and vary in price accordingly. So, if a particular BLDC fan seems a little too competitively priced, it would be prudent to check for its wattage.
Also, the wattage mentioned is for a particular speed setting. In high-speed modes like Hyper Mode, your fan may consume more power.

Last really long on inverter power
BLDC fans truly excel when paired with inverters. I didn’t notice any change in noise or speed with these fans running on inverters and thanks to their power efficiency, the battery lasted significantly longer during grid outages. Unlike traditional fans, my BLDC fans seamlessly adapted to the variable output of inverters, delivering a consistent and efficient performance even during power fluctuations.
Maintenance
BLDC fans require lower maintenance than conventional fans. BLDC motors have electronically controlled rotors and stators instead of brushes in conventional AC motors. They also have fewer moving parts, do not req and generate less heat. All of this makes them more rugged and durable. Most BLDC fans come with a two-year warranty.
At the same time, in case they do malfunction chances are that your local electrician will not be able to repair them and the repair will be more expensive.

Weighing the Advantages and Disadvantages of BLDC Fans
