Garena Free Fire OB26 update: Everything you need to know

Garena is all set to roll out the OB26 'Project Cobra' update for Free Fire. The game is currently down for maintenance, but should be up and running with the new update by the end of the day. The new update is packed to the brim with a host of features and additions. This includes weapon rebalancing and new gameplay elements. This should add a whole new strategic twist to gameplay.

Clash Squad updates in Free Fire

Rank Season 5

The new season of Clash Squad is all set to kick off from February 5, 5:00 PM SGT (2:30 PM IST). The season will go on till April 14. Those players who manage to reach the rank of Gold III or above will be rewarded with the Golden MP5.

Map-based Store

Garena has also introduced a new map-based store. The new store system will activate different stores on different maps. This will ensure that players get quick access to their preferred weapons for any specific map.

Mystery Box

The Mystery Box will help make battles more interesting. The losing team will receive the Mystery Box and will contain three special items. Players can then pick one of them to bring to the next battle. The special item might be just the push they need to get a victory. It should be noted that the Mystery Box will only be available in Clash Squad – Casual.

Battle Royale

Revival Card

The Revival Card item will be limited to Casual matches and will allow players to revive a fallen team member. However, players can only revive team members only before the final zones appear. Revival Cards will be available via in-game vending machines.

Revival Point

The Revival Point is similar to the Revival Card. However, it allows players to revive their entire team. Further, players don’t have to purchase anything from a vending machine. Rather, they have to capture and activate specific locations in maps. These locations are out in the open, and nearby players are signalled with a Revival Point being activated. So reviving team members won’t be easy.

Vending Machine update

The OB26 update will see an adjustment to the price of various items in the vending machines, the new prices should more accurately reflect the performance of the items. Further, Garena notes that the amount of tokens available in the map will also increase. This will help player update their gear more frequently.

UAV-Lite

The UAV-Lite is a utility item that players will be able to purchase from the vending machines. It can scan surrounding areas for enemies before moving out. The UAV-Lite will presumably work like the standard UAV and will be available in Casual and Ranked matches.

War Chest

The war chest is designed to make looting easier. The chest will contain various weapons or items, which should give players quicker access to loot. The developers note that the idea behind the war chest stems from the issue of finding loot in outdoor areas.

Training Grounds

New map and features

The Training Grounds will now be located on an island called Batou. It will also offer new features like a Ferris Wheel, Bunny Race, and the esports Hall of Fame in the ‘Social Zone’. Further, the map also features a racetrack. Other features include a new shooting range as well as Gloo Wall Training.

Training Grounds Store Update

The store in the Training Grounds will now offer more items than before. New items include the Fancy Hammer and the Giant Dice

Weapons

New weapon: Mag-7

The Mag-7 is a new shotgun added to Classic and Clash Squad matches in Free Fire. The weapon offers a higher rate of fire as compared to most other shotguns in the game. As such, it will be quite deadly in close quarters situations. The weapons will accept Grip and Stock attachments.

Weapon Rebalancing

The OB26 update will see the stats of as many as nine weapons rebalanced to improve gameplay. Weapons that received buffs include the Gorza assault rifle, UMP SMG, M1014 and the M249. Nerfed weapons include the SVD sniper rifle, M1887 shotgun, Vector SMG and the Parafal and Woodpecker assault rifles.

Miscellaneous

Dynamic Duo

The Dynamic Duo system is available via the ‘The Golden Vow’ item in the Free Fire Store. Once a player chooses a friend to become a Dynamic Duo, then both players can unlock milestones and achievements based on the time they spend playing together.

Social System Updates

Players will now get a new personal profile as well as a Name Badge in the game. They will also be able to pre-invite their friends who are already in games. Other new features include a friends network, leaderboard display optimization and Team Lobby.

Quick Messages

Quick Messages are a collection of common commands and messages players can use in the middle of a battle. These messages can range from pointing out enemy movements to asking for backup. These messages should help teams communicate better, especially those with no microphone.

Free Look

Players will now be able to freely look around their character while sprinting. Earlier, the camera was pretty much locked facing forward while running. With the new update, players will ale to observe their surroundings while sprinting to a new location.
