LG launched their latest line range of soundbars in India at their “Sound Synergy” event on Tuesday. I was in attendance at the event where LG showcased the capabilities of their soundbars and also highlighted some insights about the growing soundbar market in India. The LG Soundbars lineup in India now includes – SQ75TR, SG10Y, SQ70TY, S77TY and S65TR models. These soundbars bring to the table a host of features that would help elevate the home entertainment of consumers, be it in terms of media consumption, music listening, or gaming.
Let’s have a look at some of the 3 key things that stood out to me at the event –
LG went big on adding tons of quality-of-life features to further enhance the experience of their consumers. These features are spread across the lineup and include AI room calibration, Triple Level Spatial Sound technology, and their WOW interface, which includes WOWCAST. All these features are aimed at building a seamless and high-quality experience for the consumers, in theory. We will put these features to the test when we get the soundbars in for review.
One of the features that stood out to me was – WOWCAST. It has been added to the LG SG10TY soundbar, which ensures that users can connect their LG TVs to their soundbar, with the additional benefit of lossless transmission of content.
The S70TY soundbar includes what LG is claiming to be India’s first centre-up firing speaker in a soundbar. The angular placement of the driver ensures that the sound is not reflecting off the top wall but forming a wave that reflects off the top wall and the one behind (if any), giving the users an immersive experience. Adding to this is the integration of their TVs as an additional centre-firing speaker, which covers a broader range of TVs compared to Sony, who introduced this feature to the Sony Bravia Theatre Quad earlier this year.

At the event, LG’s spokesperson confirmed that the brand is working towards building an India-specific sound signature that will ensure that the masses get a sound that is tuned to their taste and out of the box. To build this sound profile, the brand has curated a selection of 50 songs from India, which are then being used by the brand’s R&D team to further develop the sound profile that will suit Indian music.
This updated sound signature is expected to be shipped to a selection of soundbars as an OTA update when it is ready and will be included out of the box for future launches. Until then, the latest soundbars include a tri-band equaliser enabled by the companion app to tune the sound to their liking.
During the event, LG also shared insights on the growth of the soundbar market in India. According to the brand, the following factors are the key drivers of the growth of soundbars in India –
1. The COVID-19 pandemic forced people to stay indoors and increased their in-home content consumption.
2. Monumental rise in OTT services, which have been bringing cutting-edge technologies like Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision to the homes of people.
3. Enhanced capabilities of soundbars available in India as they have gotten better at delivering theatre-like experiences to people.
4. Efficient space utilisation by TVs & soundbars, which enables consumers to add them easily to their existing interior setups.
