The Indian projector market has been brimming with competitively priced products that are built well and give you performance that is worth the money that you pay for. Brands like ViewSonic have flocked to the Indian market with their offerings targeted at a wide audience base. There is something for the corporates, film enthusiasts, and gamers as well. One such multi-faceted product showed up at the Digit Test Centre in the form of the ViewSonic LS740HD/W.
This compact form factor projector exceeded my expectations, and for the price that it is retailing at, at the time of writing, makes for a great deal for anyone looking to make it a part of their home entertainment system. I used this projector at my home for playing games, watching movies, and even reading books off my wall, and it amazed me in every way possible. Read on to find out whether the ViewSonic LS740HD/W is a product worth shelling out approximately ₹1.5L or not.
The ViewSonic LS740HD/W is a compact projector. It has a footprint of 286x216mm, which ensures that you can fit it in your bookshelf when not in use. You get adjustable feet on this projector, and you can mount it on the wall as well. And, despite its solid build, it weighs in at just 3kg, which in conjunction with its small form factor, makes it fairly portable. I had no issues moving it around the house, and when it was not in use, storing it in my cabinet. The overall aesthetic of the projector makes it a good fit for a variety of settings.
In terms of the build quality of the ViewSonic LS740HD/W, there is nothing to complain about. You get a solid projector, which will hold its own over time. The feet are rigid and keep the projector in place, and their screw-enabled adjustment mechanism ensures that you are not left thinking for a long time to get the perfect projection. It is certified for 24×7 operation, which makes it suitable for not only extended use in home but for commercial applications as well.
ViewSonic has gone with the quality over quantity approach when it comes to the features in this projector. To get a better idea of the specifications and features of the product, have a look at the following graphic –
Having seen that, I am sure most of your queries about the projector might have been answered. As for the user experience, I can tell you that the projector nails everything you throw at it from the get-go. Be it projecting HDR content or projecting books for lazy readers like me, it does not lag behind in any which way. The image is sharp in ideal conditions and the colours are vibrant. I have an egg-shell white-coloured wall at home, and the projector did not have any issues working with the colours while projecting content on that wall. The colours came very close to what I see on the screen of my 2020 M1 MacBook Air. Obviously take this with a grain of salt as I am talking about a projector here, and there will be some level of washing/lack of contrast and saturation that you will experience. But, it impressed me with its overall immersion and depth of colour representation.
I mentioned earlier that I also gamed on the ViewSonic LS740HD, and my experience was phenomenal. At 1080p, the visuals in games like Vampire Survivours and Genshin Impact looked immaculate, and the input latency was barely noticeable. Of course, you will not be using this to play competitive titles like CS2, but for casual gaming, this projector is great!

Well, I would say you can definitely keep it in the top 3 considerations when you are looking for a projector. This projector is mainly meant for the folk who would have a hybrid approach when deploying it. For example, using it on show fools during exhibitions and then brining it back home for content consumption. And, for that, this projector is great, given its long operational capabilities, overall performance in bright environments and portability.
If you are someone looking for a projector to use at home, then I would say go for cheaper options like the BenQ TH575 or ViewSonic M2e or the Samsung Freestyle. These come in much cheaper than the ViewSonic LS740HD and give you ample performance for the price. But this is strictly for home use. For a hybrid usage approach or commercial use, the LS740HD definitely holds firm ground.
