Even though Apple likes exclusivity, you can connect Apple AirPods and AirPods Pro to an Android device. This is mainly because AirPods need Bluetooth, and as long you have a compatible device, AirPods can be connected to an Android phone.
If you want a quick explainer on how to connect AirPods to Android, read along.
If you want to connect your AirPods to your Android device, follow these steps:
1. Simply press and hold the white button on the AirPods case while the pods are inside the case.
2. That will trigger it to go into Bluetooth mode
3. Open Bluetooth settings on your Android device
4. Pair the AirPods with the phone.
5. This allows you to connect your AirPods to your Android device. But since the AirPods are not connected to an Apple device, many features that you get on Apple are not available on Android. For example, you cannot use Siri while the AirPods are connected to Android.
Other features like auto switching, auto pairing, auto ear detection, and conversation boost are also not available while AirPods are connected to Android.
There are cases when AirPods fail to connect to Android. This is because many a time the Android device cannot find the AirPods. Other times, it may be because the AirPods are connected to another device and fail to pair with the Android device. These occurrences are common and can be rectified by following the steps we mentioned earlier in the article.
But in case you tried the steps, but the AirPods still don’t connect to the Android device, you can try to factory reset your AirPods. Here is how to do that:
1. Keep the AirPods in the case
2. Go to Bluetooth settings on your device
3. Select the AirPods and then select the ‘Forget Device’ option
4. Press and hold the button on the back of the AirPods case until the LED on the case starts flashing white. This means that the AirPods have been factory reset and can now be connected to the Android device
5. Connect the AirPods to your Android device
And that’s about it. Happy listening!
