Apple has launched a 2nd Gen HomePod after three long years. The HomePod was launched in 2018 and then discontinued in 2021 because the HomePod mini took its place. The HomePod Mini was launched in 2020 and it's a more affordable speaker than the original HomePod. We are comparing all these three HomePods to see which one is best for you. HomePod vs HomePod 2nd Gen vs HomePod Mini: Design
The HomePod 2 is very similar in design to both of the HomePods. The only difference between these HomePods is the colour option. The HomePod 2nd Gen comes in two colours just like HomePod; Midnight and White. But the HomePod mini comes in five colours; Orange, Yellow, Blue, Space Grey and White. The HomePod 2nd Gen is also very similar to HomePod in size. It’s only 2 inches shorter and approx 200 grams lighter. On the other hand, the HomePod Mini has the same design but it's very small with a height of 3.3 inches and weighs only 345 grams.

There is not much of a difference in the features of HomePod and HomePod 2nd Gen but one major difference is that HomePod 2nd Gen features Advanced computational audio with system sensing for real-time tuning whereas the HomePod and HomePod Mini features only basic computational audio with system sensing for real-time tuning. Most of the features are similar to the HomePod 2nd Gen rather than the original HomePod but HomePod Mini has fewer features.
The HomePod Mini does not feature Spatial Audio Dolby Atmos, Room Sensing and Audio Bass Correction.

The HomePod 2nd Gen comes with Thread/Matter support and it is powered by the S7 chip plus U1 for improved iPhone handoffs. It also has a temperature/humidity sensor. It has an 802.11n Wifi chip.
The HomePod used to roll out with an A8 chip and without a U1 chip. It did not have sound recognition and a temperature/humidity sensor but it did have a more powerful Wi-fi chip which is 802.11ac.
The HomePod Mini comes with an S5 chip with a U1 chip and it is likely to roll out with sound recognition by the spring. HomePod Mini also has a Thread/Matter sensor and a temperature/humidity sensor.
HomePod vs HomePod 2nd Gen vs HomePod Mini: Speakers and mics
HomePod 2nd Gen is quite different if we talk about speakers and mics. Apple hinted that was is going to sport a bigger high-excursion woofer and we know it has a 4-inch high-excursion woofer whereas the size of the high-excursion woofer of HomePod wasn’t disclosed by Apple. The HomePod 2nd Gen also comes with reduced 5-array horn-loaded speakers, unlike the 7-array horn-loaded speakers in HomePod. The far-field mic was also reduced in the HomePod 2nd Gen from 6 to 4.
On the HomePod Mini, it comes with a Full-range driver and dual passive radiator speakers and it doesn’t have high-excursion woofers. The HomePod Mini also ranks 4 for the far-field mic.
