Inclusiveness and a diverse culture are very important to Intel. Last year Intel sponsored several events worldwide in support of International Women's Day and it was a great success (pictures below are from events held last year for IWD). This year we want to do even more, so in addition to globally promoting International Women's Day events we are also working to promote projects and events in celebration ofDevelopmental Disabilities Awareness Month. While we think that technology has come a long way, we know that there is so much more progress that can be made both in involving more demographics in technology as well as creating technology that helps to improve quality of life.
International Women’s Day is on March 8th and celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women in order to accelerate gender parity globally. We will be highlighting events towards this cause for the entire month. March is also Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month which seeks to raise awareness about the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all facets of community life, as well as awareness of the barriers that people with disabilities face in connecting to the communities in which they live.
Last year, we drove efforts via primarily female Innovators and Black Belts in order to enable and showcase women in IT around the world, in a wide variety of events, for International Women’s Day. In connection with Intel’s overall diversity efforts we supported events throughout the entire month with the objective to: globally promote and support the work of standout female innovators and developers, identify future female innovator candidates, and create an ongoing “talent pool” of standout female developers.
This year, we plan to do much of the same activity to support International Women’s Day, with the addition of events planned around Developmental Disabilities Awareness month. So far there are at least 10 events being planned in almost every global region by external developers to support these initiatives. In addition to our female innovators working on amazing things, we have several innovators that are developing wearables and other devices and technology to help people with disabilities to be able to access and be a part of their communities.
We will be posting an outline of all planned events, including profile overviews and event details, in the next few days and at the end of the month we will publish a recap post with images and videos from the events. We also are planning a large post profiling our female innovators and Black Belt developers including personal anecdotes of how they experienced female inclusion in tech.
In addition to Intel’s efforts to celebrate these initiatives, we want to promote the work that the Innovator and Black Belt communities are doing to make technology accessible and to enhance the lives of everyone.
