Swift Playgrounds is a cool new app for the Apple iPad and if you are an aspiring Apple app coder with zero knowledge of how to code, then this is the app for you. Finally available on the App Store, Swift Playgrounds has been made by Apple and is extremely easy to use for children and adults alike. Here you can learn how to use Swift, the programming language used to create apps for iOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS.
Users get to learn actual code through a series of instructions provided by Apple-developed programming lessons inside the app. Beginners can choose to start from scratch, learning how to formulate commands, writing a program with multiple commands and more. Users can then see their work play out in the form of a game, wherein they need to make a character named Byte move, turn, toggle switches and enter portals using the commands entered by them. Codig lessons also allow users to play with 2 other on-screen characters in a graphical interface.
In addition, the app introduces users to concepts like debugging, challenging them to create their own paths in the game, performing loops, creating functions, using variables and reordering commands to solve puzzles.
Announcing the official release of the app, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi said in a press statement, “Everyone should have the opportunity to learn coding, and we are excited to bring Swift Playgrounds to the next generation of programmers looking for a fun and easy way to explore key coding concepts using real code.” He added, “More than 100 schools around the world have already committed to adding Swift Playgrounds to their fall curriculum, and we can’t wait to see what students create with it.”
We at Digit also tried out Swift Playgrounds and the app definitely is worth checking out for those looking to learn the basics of Swift programming or even for those who want to give their children something constructive to learn on the iPad.
