Announcing Intel IoT Developer Kit v2.0 with Java Support

We are pleased to announce the release of Intel® IoT Developer Kit v2.0, now with full Java* support! We've added new installers, additional sensor support, updated IDEs, as well as a number of enhancements, bug fixes and improved usability. The software components are available now for immediate download on the Software Downloads page.

Highlights:

7. Updates in MRAA and UPM with support for 18 new sensors

(1) Full Java* Support

  • Eclipse IDE now supports Java*, with the ability to create, run, and debug projects in Java* on the Intel Edison & Intel Galileo
  • Full Java* support for MRAA & UPM libraries
  • Latest Intel Edison & Intel Galileo images now have the Java* runtime environment, OpenJDK8 built in
  • 14 new Java examples for MRAA and 84 new Java* examples for sensors in UPM
  • New Java* API documentation for MRAA & UPM, Eclipse User Guide for Java*, and Java* for IoT Reference Guide

(2) Improved Eclipse with new template and sample code import feature

  • Eclipse can now import templates and sample code from our Github repository
  • Sensor support – now shows a picture of the selected sensor for easier identification
  • Improved Target connection view – displays library sync status, and ability to switch target connection state
  • Automatic perspective switch
  • Users can now filter and sort search results

(3) New Intel Edison installer for Linux*

  • New Intel Edison installer for Linux* – Verified on Ubuntu 14.04

(4) New Intel Galileo installer with bootable SD feature

  • New Intel Galileo installer allows you to create a bootable SD image, enabling additional features and support for Eclipse and XDK on the Intel Galileo

(5) Installer UX improvements and bug fixes

  • Installer UX improvements and bug fixes for all of the installers (Windows*, OS X*, Linux*)

(6) Improved Intel XDK IoT Edition with new upload/sync workflow

  • Incremental updates on the target board
  • Robust recognition/comparison of a project on the target board with your project in the Intel XDK IoT Edition
  • Two-way sync between the project on the target board and the project within the Intel XDK IoT Edition
  • Reading contents of target board into a new/existing project
  • Locks the serial port while it is in use on Mac OS X* and Linux* systems
  • The IoT daemon is now being built for both 32bit and 64bit processors

(7) Updates in MRAA and UPM with support for 18 new sensors

  • 18 new sensors now supported in the UPM library
  • Support for FT4222 subplatforms in MRAA
  • Documentation improvements and code style changes from C to C++ in UPM
