The Storyteller is a comedy drama movie based on Satyajit Ray's short story "Golpo Boliye Tarini Khuro". The film revolves around a wealthy businessman who hires a storyteller to help get over his insomnia. The tales told by the storyteller become more intriguing as twists are added to them. The original Bengali short story Golpo Boliye Tarini Khuro is one among the series of stories written by Satyajit Ray, which are based on the enigmatic character Tarini Khuro, that he created.
 
Tarini Khuro means respected paternal uncle in Bengali. Tarini Khuro’s full name is Tarini Charan Bandopadhyay who has amazing adventure stories with a touch of the supernatural. The range of stories ranges from ghost stories to horror stories and comedy. The stories portray the quick wit of Tarini khuro in the face of imminent problems/dangers and some with his luck.
