Naina, a criminal psychology professor, is trying to help the daughter of school custodian after hearing about how she’s embroiled in domestic violence and infanticide. She visits the slum but is sexually assaulted in the attack that kills her accompanying colleague. She survives the attack, but what comes after is just as gruelling as reliving the attack all over again. Braving through the prejudices and accusations to testify finally leads to the rapists death sentence for rape and murder. The couple opposing the death penalty have compelling reasons of their own that is interlaced with class, intersectionality, intentional contradiction, institutional practices and common notion of what punishment ought to be imposed.
Naina’s pregnancy is a blow to her face next, and it’s hard to reconcile with her husband, when the reality of her survival and guilt of life keep punching her the gut for every waking moment for the rest of her life.
