At the behest of the Emergency and local distress against the laws of Indira Gandhi, Rangan manages to host a boxing match against the Idiyappan clan, who agree on the condition that Sarpatta clan never take up fighting if they lose. Rangan viciously trains many boxers, rejecting Raman when Kabilan floors him. Raman promises vengeance, while Kabilan trains to face Vembuli, who is replaced by the Dancing Rose since Kabilan is presumed weak. Kabilan defeats Rose, and is challenged by Vembuli to a match when Raman finally enacts revenge at Vembuli’s command where Kabilan is humiliated. Rangan is arrested.
As feared by Kabilan’s mother and his wife, Kabilan does descend into alcoholism and henchmanship. When Rangan is released, he challenges the opposing clan to a match where Kabilan loses. Kabilan wails about his failure as a boxer, spouse and son when Bhagyam sends him to a trainer to regain his shape and redeem himself for a last match. Kabilan wins and restores the clan’s pride.
