Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is a biographical movie based on the life of Nambi Narayanan – an unsung hero who is a former scientist and aerospace engineer of the Indian Space Research Organisation. He was falsely accused of espionage. The story covers Narayanan's days as a graduate student at Princeton University before he started working as a scientist and the false espionage charges placed upon him. He was accused of being a spy and was arrested in 1994. He fought for years for justice, against the police officials who allegedly falsely implicated him. Nambi was in charge of the cryogenics division in ISRO. The espionage charges against him were dismissed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in April 1996. Later in 1998, the Supreme Court of India declared him not guilty. Nambi Narayanan was later awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award by the Government of India, in 2019.
