Trivia

1. Aamir Khan is such a big name in India that he could not go in and out of the house that the shoot was taking place in without arousing huge public interest. So he and his wife Kiran Rao, who is also the director, actually stayed in the same house for the entire duration of the shoot.
2. The movie uses two Hindustani classical renditions. One is Siddheshwari Devi's Dadra "Paani Sharan Aaye" in Raag Khamaj. The second one is Begum Akhtar's rain song thumri "Ab ke saawan" in Raag Tilak Kamod which blends beautifully in the backdrop of Mumbai monsoons.
3. Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna were highly considered for the lead role of Munna. Ironically, both of them starred alongside Aamir Khan in Dil Chahta Hai (2001). However, they were not selected because Kiran Rao preferred someone younger for the role.
4. Aamir Khan, who is known to have played characters that are almost half his actual age (including a college student in Rang De Basanti (2006) and 3 Idiots (2009)) plays a character closer to his actual age, with graying hair, in this movie.
5. Aamir Khan signed Pratiek Babbar after working with him in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na 2008.
6. Varun Dhawan auditioned for the Prateiks role and was rejected.
7. In one of the scenes, the CD cover of Pink Floyd's The Divison Bell album can be seen pinned to a soft board.
8. Aamir Khan uses the "F " word in one scene.
9. Kiran Rao's directional Debut.
10. Due to the 26/11/2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, the shoot was delayed and Kiran Rao was denied shooting permissions at railway stations.
11. The film was shot in 2 versions. The original version was 40 percent in English while the second version had dialog dubbed in Hindi.
12.Aamir Khan and Kitu Gidwani team up after Holi 1984.Which a=had marked the official debut for both of them.
