Devi Chowdhurani: Bandit Queen of Bengal is an upcoming Bengali period film directed by Subhrajit Mitra. The movie is based on the famous novel by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and tells the untold story of Prafulla, a young woman who becomes the first female freedom fighter of India against British colonial rulers. After being shunned by her in-laws, Prafulla is adopted by the dacoit leader Bhavani Thakur. Under his guidance, she transforms into Devi Chowdhurani, a fierce bandit queen who leads the Sanyasi and Fakir Rebellion against the British. The film stars Srabanti Chatterjee as Devi Chowdhurani, with Prosenjit Chatterjee, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, and Arjun Chakrabarty in pivotal roles. It is set to release in theaters on September 22, 2024.
