The Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 is a phone that has been made for the cameras, but not the users. The company launched the phone in India, and according to Micromax, it is the slimmest phone in the world. Well, a certain Chinese firm named Vivo may disagree, but Micromax has a fair point when it says the Canvas Sliver has no camera bumps and is slim from one end to the other. Here's a first look at the device.
At 5.1 mm, it is definitely among the slimmest phones in the world. What's more important though is that the Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 is also amongst the lightest phones in the world, weighing only 97 grams.
On the side is a metallic frame, which has been polished. The volume rocker and power buttons are placed on this frame, on either side of the smartphone. There's also a SIM slot above the power button.
The headphones jack and micro-USB charging slot are placed at the bottom.
The Canvas Sliver 5 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC, and at a price point of Rs. 17,999, we think it is a very bad idea. It has 2GB of RAM, a 2,000 mAh battery and Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
Micromax has used an 8MP rear camera with a Sony IMX219 Sensor and a blue glass filter. This is another area where the phone seemed lacking on first impressions.
On the front, is a 5MP camera for the selfie lovers out there.
The Canvas Sliver 5 has a 4.8 inch HD AMOLED display, which is perhaps one of the most reflective and dim screens we've come across in a while.
The phone is 4G capable, making it the second Micromax phone to support 4G connectivity, after the recently launched Micromax Canvas Knight 2.
Micromax also announced that with the Canvas Sliver 5, the company is launching a 7 day doorstep pickup and drop after sales service scheme, which will apply to all upcoming Micromax phones.
The phone will be sold in all 5 countries that Micromax sells its devices in. The company has brought back Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman to advertise and promote the product.
At Rs. 17,999, the Canvas Sliver 5 is a grossly overpriced product, and it will need to do really well in our tests for it to recommendable.
